How far is the Milan airport from Venice?

We will be using miles to get to Venice for a cruise on Delta. I was told this was going to be extremely hard to do. My question is could I go a day early and use Milan as another city to fly into incase there's nothing available into Venice? Is the train easy to take from Milan and approx. how long of a trip and where do I go online to find out the cost? I can't seem to retrieve messages from my private profile so if you could post here I would appreciate it. Thanks so much.

1 hr to go from Milan Malpensa airport to Milan Centrale train station. Then about 3 hours from Milan Centrale station to Venice station. Of course add in for some waiting around time and it's about half a day to get there.

You are looking at a about 5.0hrs to make it from Malpensa to the Venice cruise docks. With luck and quicker connections, this could be reduced to 4.5hrs. This includes 70 minutes from the time you board the bus at Malpensa, 30 minutes to buy your train ticket at Milan Centrale and board the train, 3.0hrs on the train to Venezia Mestre (could be 30 minutes less on a few runs), 10 minutes to catch a taxi and 20 minutes to the cruise docks.

Bus from Malpensa airport to Milan train station is about 5 euro. Train from Milan to Venice (1st class/2nd class on 05/26) is 35.50/25.20 euro for Eurostar or 31.50/24.00 euro for intercity. There may be an additional 3-4 euro seat reservation fee per ticket. Those prices are to Venice Mestre station, where recent posters have said it's easier to get a taxi to the cruise port.
