How far is San Giovanni Rotondo from Rome???

Hello to everyone,

We've been planning a 10 day trip to Italy for a couple of years now and it looks like this might be it. So far we planning on going the second week of October and we want to spend a day at San Giovanni Rotondo.

Does anyone know if is possible to go in one day? I'm not sure were it's located yet, still searching the web.

Still planning the rest of the trip, will be asking more questions in the future....

Thanks

San Giovanni is locatated in the Gargano Peninsula of Italy. It is located on the "spur" of the boot that sticks out above the "heel", on the east side of the country. Our group's bus ride from there to Rome took several hours one way(4-6). It is a remote location and I don't know what public transportation is available. It is up in the mountains. I assume you are going to visit the places connected to Padre Pio. I found it to be a very spirital place. We were there the last weekend of October in 2006 and it was very crowded, but we were able to see the church, with the saint's tomb, his monastic cell, and the church where he offered mass, etc., in a couple of hours. There are many hotels there if you want to spend a night.
