How far is Civitavecchia from around the Vatican or Campo di Fiori area? What is the best way to get there assuming we will have some luggage and how much will is cost?

Don't know the exact mileage but am guessing around 50 miles. It is an 45 minutes to 1:15 via train depending on which train you take. Again, depending on the train it will be about 8 to 12 dollars. The train will take you to Termini (Rome's main train station). From the train station to the Vatican is about four miles and about two to CFlori area. You can take a city bus or taxi.
