We will be traveling to Italy in late December (in and out of Milan, travel to include Florence, Venice, Lucca, Siena). We also want to get into the Dolomites. We want travel by train, but I'm not opposed to short bus rides. Do you have suggestions on the best places to go and how to get there. We don't ski, but my husband hopes to include Cortina. Thanks so much for your help!
the dolomites are beautiful however I have only been in Summer which was by car and I drove everywhere. I understand you can get to Bolzano then local bus it to dolomites(at least during no snow seasons). The roads are very narrow, hazardous and winding in the dolomites. It might be advised to take a tour thru there during winter to incl your lodging.

check under Cortina then the transportation section where they discuss bus service from Mestre, Bologna etc to Cortina.
