I have been looking at the train tables for the last two hours and I cannot figure out a quick way to get there. Is there a secret I don't know, or is it really that much of a pain?
Hi Catherine--Are you looking at the train schedules that come with your RailPass? The schedules don't have all the info. If you go to the Deutsch Bahn site--see Rick's Favorite Links above--you can put your departure city but not "Cinque Terre". It takes 3 to 3-1/2 hours typically with a change in Pisa and Empoli. Hope this helps.
We are going the other direction from Orvieto to Vernazza and it takes about 5 hours. Try La Spezia to Siena at the Deutsche Bahn website. You could also enter Vernazza to Siena, but I am not sure of the other 4 CQ towns. Happy Travels!
Ooh, I just did this! No pain at all, just not direct. Take the train from La Spezia to Pisa, then Pisa to Siena (change in Empoli). I just took the regional rail, so there are several trains, no need to book ahead. If you have a couple hours, Pisa was well worth a quick look (Field of Miracles). You can easily check your luggage at the Pisa train station for 3 euros.
