How do I search this site?

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and things have changed. Where is the search bar? How do I search for topics?

At the top of this page, just to the left of center, is a search box. Just type in a key word or words and see what happens.

If using a cell phone, click on the menu ( burger) icon (5 small white horizontal lines stacked on top of each other) , on the top left of the screen, and you’ll get the search bar.

If you’re on your computer, at the top of the page it will say “search”. If you are on your phone, there are 5 lines on the upper left. Tap on those to open a menu. At the very top it says “search”. If what you’re searching for is on the forum, you’ll want to refine your search to recent post Covid because much has changed. Otherwise it throws all dates into the mix. It’s not a great search function but it’s all we have. Sometimes Google search will find a recent topic for you.
Welcome back to the forum after a 11 year hiatus.

Many recommend, instead of the search feature on this site, another method. (I believe it was Mardee from whom I copied this. Thank you!)

For example, if you're looking for info on a car rental in Scotland, you would put this URL in the Google search bar - site:community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/scotland "car rental" (note that the search terms are listed at the END of this string. That will limit your search results in Google to the Scotland forum.

I've been using this method a great deal for my upcoming trip, and sometimes I add 2023 to the info in quotes to try to limit it to newer posts. Good luck!

Janet, you beat me to it! Glad it's helping! I've actually been using that today to look for lodging in the Peak District, and it's amazing how much more I find on Rick Steves using Google. :) Maybe one day, the search engine will get better... :)

I have inadvertently used straight Google a few times and it works pretty well.

Use a phrase like Rick Steves forum cookies in Amsterdam
