How do I get to Cinque Terre from Florence by train? leaving in 2days

Hello, we've decided to add CT to our trip, and would need to take the train from Florence to CT. I've read all over these forums, but still not quite sure. At the train station, will it be obvious on which train to get on to go to CT? I've seen some posts that there are a few stops. How can I make sure to get on the right one? I've also looked online at the train websites and I don't actually see a train that goes to the CT from Florence. I've also heard its not online b/c I would just take a local train. Please help, feeling lost and leaving in a few days. Thank you!

If you buy at the ticket window, they will give you a sheet showing all the connections. There is no "Cinque Terre", just the 5 towns of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso. Buy a ticket to the one you want. Likely you will need to change trains at Pisa or La Spezia or more likely, both.
Schedules are at www.trenitalia.com with all the changes. Use a date within the next 7 days of now to get the prices.

As Sam says, there is no Cinque Terre. Think of someone asking "How do I get from Nashville to New England?"

Get onto the Trenitalia website:

http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

On Saturday, there is a 7:39 AM Frecciabianca train (9758) from Campo di Marte in Florence (Firenze) to Riomaggiore with one change to Regionale 2296 at La Spezia Centrale. It'll have you at the southernmost town in the CT (Riomaggiore) by 9:56 (2 hours/17 minutes).

You could also take regionale train 6637 from Firenze S.M. Novella at 7:08 to Campo di Marte to pick up the 7:39 to La Spezia.

Direct (regional only) services to La Spezia from Firenze SMN depart at 0953 / 1153 / 1353 (approx 2 hr 30 min journey). From there it's a local service to your desired CT stop.

There is only one daily high speed Frecca service on this route as described by others above.
FB9758 departs Firenze Campo Marte at 0739, arrives La Spezia at 0908.

I went with the 7:08/7:39 as daylight is so short this time of year: figured Heidi would want to take advantage of as much of that as possible?

heidi,

One other point to mention is that if any of the trains you use is a Regionale, you MUST validate your ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel. Those with unvalidated tickets are subject to a hefty fine, which will be collected on the spot.

Are you going to be staying in the C.T. or just taking a day trip? When researching tickets on the Trenitalia website, you'll need to specify which of the five towns you're going to. You can easily buy tickets at the Kiosks in Firenze SMN station.
