Kris,

You can take a bus (line 82) from PORTOFINO to S. MARGHERITA FS ( S. Margherita's train station) then a train from there to Florence.

Here are the bus schedules:http://www.atpesercizio.it/Orari201504280821/orari_TOC/pagina.31.pdf

When looking at bus schedules, 'Feriale' means workdays ( Mon- Sat), 'Festivo' means Sunday or Holidays.

Check this website for train schedules:http://www.trenitalia.com

Enjoy your trip!

EDIT: I forgot to give you the website for the ATP bus (Italian): http://www.atpesercizio.it/servizi.php

Unable to find it in English but you can use google translate to help you.

kris,

How are you planning to get from the airport in Genova to Portofino when you arrive?

This is likely how I'd travel the routes you mentioned.....

  • Portofino to Florence - I'd take the boat from Portofino to Santa Margherita Ligure (about 20 minutes). Once there walk up the hill to the rail station to connect with the train. It's only a short walk along the harbour, cross the street and then use the stairs up to the station. You could use a departure at 10:22, arriving Firenze S.M. Novella at 13:32 (time 3H:10M, one change at Pisa Centrale).
  • Florence to Rome - that one is VERY easy. There are numerous departures each day from Firenze S.M. Novella to Roma Termini using the high speed Freccia trains. Travel time is about 90 minutes. Note that the fast trains have compulsory reservations, which are specific to train, date and departure time, so the tickets can ONLY be used on the one train listed on the ticket. If you board the wrong train, hefty fines may result.

Are you planning to travel home via a flight from FCO? If so, you'll likely be using the Leonardo Express to get to the airport (~32 minutes, €14 PP). If that's the case, be sure to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or again hefty fines.
