How do I find good & inexpensive restaurants in Rome, Florence and Venice?

I am staying 3 nights in Rome, 2 nights in Florence and 1 night in Venice. We are on a budget but we want good food. Where do I begin to find good restaurants? I checked the graffiti wall and there are so many...

More specifically in Rome near termini station, trevi fountain and trastevere. Prefer the restaurant to be casual.

Also any good recommendations for pizza in rome as well as gelato?

Please help me!!!

And don't forget to ask at the front desk of the place you're staying. It's amazing how many people don't think of that. Tell them what you're looking for and they'll even be able to show you on a map how to get there.

Don't overplan - just walk down any of the small alleys and you'll find lots of places to eat. Most will have a menu including prices posted. We didn't find a place we didn't like.....

Relax, finding great food inexpensively is easy. Every restaurant will post their menu outside. Wander down some side streets, as suggested earlier, and you will find all sorts of less costly places to eat. Keep in mind that the more touristy the more expensive. I have traveled in Italy eating well each time for 30 years and I never visited the temples of gastronomy.

Buon viaggio,
