We are going to be in Rome during Holy Week and wanted to do the Vatican tour. I tried booking a tour on the Vatican site but the March tours are already sold out and it won't allow April bookings yet. I want to get tickets for April 2nd or 3rd. Do I need to wait until the site opens up the April dates? Is there another way to book? Or, am I already too late?
The Vatican online ticket office only allows you to book up to 2 months in advance. Right now you can only book up to March 4, the other dates are not sold out, just unavailable. Check the site on February 2 and you should be able to book for April 2.
Keep in mind that the Vatican during Holy Week is going to be CRAZY busy!! However,if you want to tour the Vatican try and get one of the last tour times available as the afternoons are not as busy as the morning times.
Ahhh. Thanks for the info!
As far as I know you will need to wait till the April dates open up. I've been in Rome during Holy Week and the difference between, say, Monday of that week versus Thursday or Friday was significant.
You'll have better luck getting permission to visit the Scavi and getting tour tickets if you can give them a wide range of dates and time and/or if you can try to do that earlier in the week. We arrived the Sunday before Easter and tried to do anything religious first and ancient Roman towards the end of the week and found that this worked great.
