How Busy Is Naples Airport On Saturday AM?

We have a flight out of Naples on Saturday morning (6/20/15) at 6:05AM.
I have read that the airport is not very big and I would like to know how early
you have to be at the airport. The airline requirement is 3 hours before your
plane departs for the U.S. Passengers need the 3 hours to go through the check in
process, security, etc. So, this means, we have to be at the airport at 3:05AM.

We have never flown out of this airport. Any help/experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks : )

I flew out of Naples at the end of a RS tour last June. The airport is not very big but, in my experience, the real sticking point was that everything ran on Italian time.

Though I have not used the Naples airport, I have had several 6am flights from Rome, and have learned that ticket counters are not open as early as 3 hours before the flights! I suggest checking with your airline to find out what time their Naples counter opens, and aim to be there then.

As others have noted, the airport is small and checkin counters are not open at 3am. You probably won't be able to get a cappuccino at that hour. I have flown out of Capodicchino many times, always to other European airports, it's never taken more than an hour to get from the curb to the gate (not saying that it can't).

From your question, it sounds like you are flying direct from Napoli to your final destination in the US. That's unusual. Most flights from there connect with the overseas flights somewhere like Rome.

Is it a transatlantic flight from Naples? If so you will need all the US based Security Theatre so need much longer.

If you are hopping a short hop to then change to the big plane, most of that will be when you change planes and normal small airport Italian check in would apply.

We flew out of Naples at 7:30 on a weekday morning a number of years ago (connected in Rome back to the States) and thought arriving 2 hours in advance would be fine? It was chaos: a very large and very confused group in front of us; not enough check-in personnel; took forever. Short story long, we needed nearly every minute of those two hours.

But if the check-in counters aren't even open until 5:00 or so, then it wouldn't make much sense to be there too long before that.

We flew out of Naples Capodochino last month, on a Saturday, on Lufthansa to Munich, connect to Chicago O'Hare. Arrived at the airport at 10AM for a noon flight. Yes, it was busy, a little chaotic, but nothing too bad, and we had plenty of time. But even at that hour, only a couple of food kiosks were open, all the restaurants were closed.

The airport is small, but maybe a tad bigger than Florence Peretola.

Your last destination may be the U.S., but there are no flights from NAP to the U.S. therefore you will be stopping somewhere in Europe first. Based on the time of departure I think you are flying Lufthansa to Munich.
I'm willing to bet the check in counters won't open before 5am, therefore 5am is the time you should be at the airport. One hour before departure is sufficient for flying within Europe.

I checked our return flight to the U.S. We depart from Naples Airport (Air France) and proceed to Paris, Charles de Gaulle. From there on to Detroit, then San Diego.
I hope It is safe to say Naples airport is for shuttle flights to major airports in Europe where you will then change planes to fly to the U.S.

Thank you very much. I always find an answer here. A very comforting feeling knowing there is a community to help us enjoy our holiday.
