How big are the taxis at Fiumicino

I saw some of them on Youtube they are pretty tiny with a small trunk. We three adults and six luggages therefore I am wondering if I could get a big enough taxis at the airport or should I use the private shuttle service.
We are going to travel from the airport to the Piazza Novana area.
Thanks.

The ones I've seen are medium sized cars - I don't know car models but think of what you'd rent in the US as a standard rental car. 3 adults would fit fine (one could sit in front if it's too tight in the back). If you mean 6 full size suitcases then yes, that would be a problem. That would be a problem in any normal cab in the US too.

There may be taxi vans in the queue too, but I'd just book a private transfer. The ones I've used are about the same cost as a taxi and there's no waiting in line for the taxi.

Taxis range in size but with 6 bags you're probably better off with a private transfer. A private transfer won't cost much more than a taxi and will be waiting for you with the appropriate sized vehicle.

I would also suggest that with just three of you traveling you limit yourself to one bag each. Unless you're staying for 6 months there really is no need for so much luggage. It makes it very hard to get move from place to place when you have that much luggage to handle.

Packing light and limiting to a single bag per person is to remarkably freeing. Like here. You might could cram 3 people and six bags into my Ford Fusion (also a common taxi in Chicago) but it wouldn't be dicey in the least to take 3.

I think arranging someone with a larger vehicle is the move for you if you're stuck with two bags a person.

We suggest you use a private car company because you have so much luggage. We always use romashuttle.com when we fly into Roma. They offer several size vehicles and can probably meet your needs. Generally, we are met after customs with the driver holding a sign with our last name on it. In 2014 five were traveling together and were met with a van.

The cost for a private car and a taxi are about the same for service into the city and a van would be more.

I agree with Max. This would be a wonderful time to rethink your packing strategy. Unless you're planning to stay several months, there's no need to have 2 full sized bags each.

My wife and I spent 10 days in Scotland and only took two carryon bags. The clerks at the Air Canada check in were incredulous. When we were in Italy, we saw several tourists in Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra huffing and puffing while they schlepped their big bags up steep, narrow streets. BTW, roller bags don't work well on cobblestone. Many ended up just carrying their 50 pound bags up the street.

The luggage is the variable. If you have six carry on size bags it will be tight for three and this is with luggage in the back seat. If the bags are bigger then it is too much. When setting up the private transfer make sure they understand how much luggage you have.

Agree with Donna about the private car service know as Rome Cabs. After a long flight, some jet lag, and not being familiar with the area, there is nothing better than having your private driver meet you inside the terminal and whisk you to your hotel. No waiting in the regular taxi line or just having a "lost" feeling. It is not the cheapest way, but it is definitely the best. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It usually cost only about 10 Euro more than a regular taxi. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. Send them an email with the details of you needs and they will probably answer with a quote within 24 hours. You do have to pay cash (Euros) and the end of the journey but not in advance.

They also have taxi vans or large station wagons in the queue. If the attendant sees a problem fitting your party, they point you to a larger taxi car.

Perhaps ask your lodging for a transport recommendation, making clear what your total baggage load will be.

You can always order two taxis, one for yourselves and one for the luggage. If one of you is a big football player then maybe three taxis.

Just take two taxis! You'll end up at the same place!

Emily, why take two taxis and pay almost 100 euros when you can book a private transfer big enough for everyone and all the luggage for much less?
