All directions I have read have us first going to Florence train station then to Lucca. The maps look as though the tracks run close to the airport on the way to Lucca. Is there a train station more convenient? Thanks for the input.
Two locations that seem doable: Rifredi station in Florence - it's south of the airport about halfway between SMN and the airport.
Option 2: Sesto Fiorentino looks to be a few miles north of the airport.
I don't know about the logistics of getting from the Florence airport to either of these places, but at least you have options...
I did not see a train station at Florence airport when we came in. There is regular bus service, however, that goes from the Florence Airport to the train station and then to Pisa. CLICK HERE for the bus info.
Thanks for your input. It surprises me that it isn't easier to find info about this route. I still would like to find someone who has actually made this connection. Thanks again.
Kerry,
I think you want to transfer via bus to the Florence main train station (Sant Maria Novella) - shown as Firenze SMN on the train schedules. There is a bus each half hour from the airport (on the half-hour)to the Sita Station. The Sita station is across the street from the train station. You can buy tickets on the bus for 4.50 Euro and the trip takes about 20 minutes without traffic. Once you arrive at the station, you can catch your trains to Lucca. I would just buy the train ticket from the ticket kiosk in the station. The Florence Airport website has more information about this transfer.
Good luck.
