How and where to buy a Venice vaporetto weeklong pass

I’ve been here now a week and have walked everywhere. Last night I spent at least a good 90 minutes googling the Venice pass but it was not easy to understand, to put it mildly. I walked pass a vaporetto stop ten minutes ago and there was apparently no way to buy a pass. If one buys one online, does one have a method of flashing the card past a reader at a vaporetto stop to begin use of the pass or does one have to buy a physical card at the Piazzale Roma and flash that at a reader (which I never saw, either, at the stop. It seems that only single ride tickets are sold there. Many thanks.

There are kiosks at the train station
Buy your pass there
Validate every time you use

They come in 1 day, 3 day and 7 day and are a true 24 hour
So first use 1 pm Saturday means it’s good til 1 pm Sunday

Not sure but I think if you buy online you still have to pick up the physical pass at a kiosk

Since I’ve always taken the train into Venice, I buy my vaporetto pass at the train station. There’s a kiosk on the east side on the track side of the terminal near the restrooms. (I’m east west north south deficient in Europe so I could be wrong about that.)

Ask your hotel where the nearest place to buy a pass is. Some convenience stores sell them. I bought mine at the airport when I arrived.

There are kiosks at many of the vaporetto stops. If all else fails, use one at the train station.

I bought my pass on the way out of the train station in 2022, but I saw vending machines and/or ticket booths at the busier vaporetto stops. You should be able to buy passes there--though I suppose they might sell only one-day passes for some reason.

The 168-hour (7-day) pass is a nice deal for 65 euros.

We bought ours last year at a tobacco shop close to the hotel. The hotel directed us to the shop. The shop did want cash, but there was no surcharge added.
Have a great trip!

We bought our passes (72 hour) at the Rialto Bridge vaporetto stop. You get a paper pass that must be tapped at a ticket machine before each trip. The passes were a great investment since a single 75 minute vaporetto fare is now 9.5 Euros.
