Housing - VRBO and Homeaway

Hello Travelers, We are planning to travel 5 nights Venice, 4 nights Florence and 6 nights Paris. We are 6-7 ladies traveling together April 2013. We have concerns regarding housing. It is our first time using VRBO and Homeaway. They seem to have an excellent reputation on this site. 1. How far in advance should we reserve housing? 2. Is it reasonable to expect to find a 6 bedroom home in these locations?
3. Does anyone have any recommendations in these locations for a group our size? We are trying to plan ahead. We are not nearly as experienced as many travelers on this site. Please forgive if our questions are unreasonable. Thank you.

In my opinion, VRBO is very safe and dependable. 6 separate bedrooms can be tough anywhere, though. Houses in the countryside more likely to have that many separate rooms than apartments or houses in the cities. But all you can do is try and do snatch up a fitting property as soon as it presents itself, if you are sure of your dates! Waiting can be dangerous. Look for a cancellation clause if you are worried. Most places have one that is not too punishing. I have not used Homeaway nor Homelidays, but they receive good rating from most people.

I've used both Homeaway and vrbo for rentals in Venice, Florence and Sorrento. Very reliable. Many apartments have both double beds and twin beds. If you don't mind doubling up, you should be able to find something reasonable. You might even consider two apartments near each other. I would book at least five months in advance. Most apartment owners will want a deposit. Many accept Paypal. Very secure. Also, look for reviews of the apartments. I love apartment renting. It is great to shop in the markets and relax in your own apartment as opposed to a hotel.
Sorry I can't help you with Paris.
