We are three US couples who would like to rent a house in Italy for 7 to 10 days in November, 2012 . We are looking for a location with weather warm enough for some outdoor activities. We are planning to travel by train to see some major sites like Pompeii, Florence, maybe Venice. Our itinerary will be determined by the location of our rental. Budget is around 1,000 euros per couple for rent. Suggestions please. Best dates are
Nov. 10 to 20.
Peggy, I have stayed at La Fornella. check out their website. www.lafornella.com
What you see, is what you get. The pictures are exactly what you will see. The train is very close. Olive orchards are within easy distance. We took the train to Florence. You'll love it.
First, good for you for planning ahead. You should be able to set up a really nice trip. Second, do you realize you've posted this three separate times? You might want to delete the earlier ones to avoid confusing people. :-) Third, as to your question, I suggest you look at the posting titled "How much time to get there" at the start of all the postings to figure out your travel times between locations. Pompeii and Venice, for example, are at opposite ends of the country. Italy's not as big as Texas, but it's big enough to make those two destinations impractical as daytrips from the same location.
Peggy, You might want to delete your duplicate Threads on this subject before they attract any replies. There's no reason to post more than once, and one Thread will make it easier to keep track of the replies. Cheers!
Hi Peggy, I haven't used this company, but my friend is a travel agent and recommends them: www.parkervillas.com
For mid-summer, they can be pricey, but as your traveling in November, the prices look pretty good. You can choose the villas based upon number of people (beds) and location. Also, feel free to check www.vrbo.com if you are interested renting an apartment. Enjoy! :)
Peggy, when we are in the EU we usually rent from VRBO.com and Homelidays.com. We have had very good luck using these two sister companies. It would be good idea to rent in two different locations, since you have some pretty "far flung" destinations in mind. Pick up a copy of Rick Steves Italy book and look at some of his suggested destinations, and the transportion connection times between these destinations. Once you pick your two locations, also look at the town websites, and see what they have for lodging recomendations.
