we are taking a cruise departing from venice, any adivce on hotles in venice for a family of 6 (two rooms) near the large ships embarcation ports.

Have you tried Venere.com, searching for hotels near the embarcation ports (after consulting a map)? Some people who hang out here have done cruises leaving from Venice, I haven't, maybe they'll see your question. I would have hoped that the cruise company would have had some suggestions. I guess it is unavoidable that it will be expensive to get two rooms in Venice.
