Greetings, Just wondering whether I'm insane to try to keep searching for a hotel in Rome that might have a pool? We're going to be in Rome for five nights in July and I'm having no luck on the major websites, such as hotels.com, etc. Venere doesn't have the search option for the larger hotels, and I get booted out (no pun intended) as soon as I add my two teenage daughters in to the mix. We were hoping for something in and around the sights, I know the radisson at termini has vacancy and is reasonable but i've been reading that it's a seedy area. My kids are 15, 17 and will want to go out for runs, etc. so i'm hoping for a better location. any suggestions? or am i crazy to think i'll get a hotel with a pool at this time of year? some of the five stars have them but we don't have $6,000 to spend for five nights! just picturing it to be super hot and a nice way to cool off mid-day. any suggestions would be most appreciated. thank you!

Novotels usually have pools. We have stayed at the Novotel La Rustica which has a very nice pool, family rooms, and is very convenient for the GRA and the two properties in Tivoli. Its not in the centre of Rome by any means and we moved into the Via Veneto area for our days in Rome. We had a car so both places worked for us.
The Termini area would be fine. It may not be quite as pretty as some other areas of Rome, but it's perfectly safe and you can't beat the ease of access to the mass transit. I'd suggest you do the Radisson, assuming they still have room at this late date. FWIW, I'm not sure how cool that Radisson pool will be by mid-day since it's outdoors. Could be like swimming in soup. Much more important to me would be to be sure to get a good place with guaranteed air-conditioning that's easy to get back to in the afternoon.
I think the Termini area is fine. We have stayed there for a total of about three weeks during four visits. Sure it is little seedy looking but a lot of Europe is seedy looking. In the US we tend to associate crime with seedy looking areas but not so in Europe. Some areas are just a little more run down than others -- has a lot to do with age. Pools are a high luxury item in Europe so expect to pay for a pool if that is important.
http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/ is a site where members post their run routes on an embedded Google map. But non-members can search it. Unless you go to a park, running on Rome's streets can be frustrating, as is the case in any big city with busy traffic and some narrow streets with blind corners. I always start early in the morning before the city gets going. There is one run I like - but only early - that ties together the Caracalla Baths, Forum (not IN the Forum) Circus Maximus. Part of my route is on someone's mapmyrun, just search for Rome Italy. If you have not run on cobblestone before, you might want to avoid it - I find it to be pretty tough going. Odds are that Google Street View will have most of whatever route you , so you can "run" it virtually before doing it. I am a male adult and I run alone. In Rome, I feel perfectly safe while running. I have never looked at the safety aspect from a teenager's point of view
kristen, "I know the radisson at termini has vacancy and is reasonable but i've been reading that it's a seedy area." I don't agree that the area around Termini is "seedy". It's quite a busy area, which is to be expected around a large rail station, but I've never felt it was "seedy". I often stay in that area, and will be again in a few months. Cheers!
Kristen, you might check out this article: Rome Hotels With Pools. It outlines about 40 hotels within 15 km of the city center that have indoor and/or outdoor pools. Good Luck!
Thank you all so much. You've been very helpful, I'm on this today!
