Hotels to stay in Orvieto

We will be spending 2 nights in Orvieto on our own before meeting up with our Rick Steves Tour April 2018.
I have done some on line research and looked through Rick Steves tour book to get some ideas of where to stay.

We wanted to ask if anyone has any hotel recommendations or feedback (positive or negative) of hotels you have stayed in while in Orvieto.
thank you

We stayed in an airbnb in Orvieto that was wonderful. Very clean, with a kitchen, living room, beautiful bathroom, one bedroom and it had a washer. The only negative was there were 4 flights of stairs but it was worth it because the apartment was so nice and the view was beautiful. Here is a link if you are interested. We paid $182 for 2 nights.

You can also search the Forum for previous posters' thoughts on hotels where they've stayed. I know I've written a post about the hotel where I stayed in Orvieto this past May..

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Duomo in Orvieto back in October. Clean, modern, great breakfast buffet. If you have a car they will park it for you in their own private lot. The hotel is literally 200 ft from the Duomo . A very comfortable place to stay

We stayed at LaMagnolia B&B. It is in a wonderful location on Duomo St., on a small square where musicians play, and near many shops, cafes and restaurants. It is lovely and quite reasonable. Ask for a room on a lower floor as the apartments are up a whole lot of steps!

We stayed at the B&B Ripa Medici. You could not want a better hostess. If we go back to Orvieto we will definitely stay here again.

My favorite is Hotel Virgilio, in Piazza Duomo.

Another vote for Hotel Virgilio!
This hotel is next to the Duomo, steps from the bus stop, the TI office, a delicious restaurant, and a gelateria — perfect location!

I stayed at Hotel Corso and would certainly recommend it. It's located about half way between the Funicular and the Duomo, which I found a very convenient location. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed and there was an elevator if that's a concern.

We also liked Hotel Corso--super convenient if arriving by train.

Hotel Corso was where I stayed for over 2 weeks in 2015 while taking language lessons. It's a bit away from the center of town, which might not be your preference, but there's a good gelato shop just a short distance away (back toward the train station). There's a small greengrocer's shop across the street from the hotel. Hotel Corso is somewhat uphill from the top of the funicular, though not as far away as the hotels in the duomo area.

We are also staying in Orvieto in May 2018 before our South of Italy tour leaves from Rome. I just booked Casa Selita B&B which I found in Rick's Italy book. While the hotels right in the center of things look nice, they are likely more similar to other hotels we will stay at on tour. I don't mind a short walk to stay on a lovely property which will remind me a bit of the agriturismo we stayed at in Tuscany last summer on the BOE 14 day tour.

Grand Hotel Italia.....it's a RS hotel. Good location. Nice rooms.

Let me reccomend Pizzaria Charlie. One of the best pizza's I've ever had.

Here is another recommendation for Hotel Corso. We stayed there several years ago and were happy with the property. The location is really convenient to the funicular and the remaining part of town. The rooms were extremely clean, the staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was good.

We stayed there for three nights, which was two nights too many. The town is very quaint with friendly people, but the town closes at 9pm. We did find a cafe with internet access that stayed open until midnight, or so.

Many posters have recommended Orvieto as a place to pick up or drop off a rent-a-car and taking the train to Roma instead of venturing into Roma behind the wheel.

Buon viaggio,
