Does anyone have any suggestions for a moderately priced hotel in Sorrento, preferably one that overlooks the sea. Thank you.
Angelina,
For "moderately priced", you might have a look at Hotel Desiree. It's a bit of a walk from the main part of town, but not difficult. They have a nice rooftop terrace (accessible via a spiral staircase) that provides great views, and as I recall they share a beach with Hotel Tonnarella next door.
We loved our recent visit to Sorrento Flats -- newly renovated B&B on via Accademia in the old town, near the elevator to the marina where you can gaze at the ocean sunset. Happy Hour every night with wine and snacks so you can chat with other travelers. No lift, but the host will carry bags up and down; filling breakfast; surrounded by restaurants and shopping and gelato stores. Priced in the low €100 range.
We loved our stay at Palazzo Montefusco Relais though it does not overlook the ocean. It's right off the main piazza but on a pedestrian-only lane which contains a lot of shops/restaurants/gelaterias, etc. The hotel was modern, comfortable and very clean. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay and the breakfast buffet was incredible. The cook baked a new cake/pastry every morning which were to die for and the buffet selections were high quality and fresh. The location was great and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
We are currently staying at Hotel Settimo Cielo. It is listed in both Rick's book and in Fodor's Amalfi book. It is moderately priced and all the rooms overlook the sea. I think they all have balconies, but I'm not sure. The staff is lovely, and breakfast is included. It is a 5-10 minute walk down the the center of town on the road Ken mentioned above. Rick calls the rooms "Spartan" and Fodor's lists it as a "Fodor's Choice" for budget travelers. The rooms are basic, but clean and there is a lovely view of the Bay of Naples. www.hotelsettimocielo.com
il Nido. hands down my favorite hotel/restaurant/people in Sorrento.
I understand your request for moderate...but if you feel the need to splurge a bit the look at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori and spring for one of the room with the balcony hanging out over the sea. It's an exquisite place!
Depending on when you go, you can get a deal on Hotel Antiche Mura. Perfect location right in the center of everything. Breakfast is the best. Even the kids remember it. The coffee was the most memorable I've ever had.
We have stayed at hotel settimo cielo 3x now with the last stay being in Oct 2013. The rooms were fine and we loved the balconies with amazing views of the bay of naples. We found the desk staff to be very kind and helpful. Have a great trip!
Thank you so much for all of your suggestions; you've been so very helpful!
