Hotels - Rome

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Rome. We would like to pay around 100-120 USD per night.

Hi Raymond, When are you going to Rome? The time of year will affect hotel prices. Also where do you want to stay in Rome? Do you want to stay near any particular sites? If you have no preference, then I will suggest the Hotel Lilium, my wife and I stayed there in November of 2010. The rooms are on the small side but are all painted in pastel colors, very clean and you can get one with a bath (You don't have to walk down a hall and share). The staff was very nice. The hotel is within walking distance of the Rome train station and the Rome National Museum. Hope this helps. Here is the hotel website: www.liliumhotel.it

100-120 dollars is about 73-89 euros. That's not a lot but depending on the time of year you travel and how many in the room, it may be fine. I would suggest looking in the termini or Vatican areas for hotels in this price range. Donna

Raymond, I'm seeing your multiple postings asking for lodging in various places. I really encourage you to buy the RS Italy book which is loaded with all sorts of recommendations for varying price ranges (although Rome will be a challenge with this budget).

That is a very low limit for anything in and around the old city. You might look on Trip Advisor and see what might be available on the edges of the city. The Beehive, highly regard hostel, near Termini charges 100E ($134) for a double private room and 30E/person for a shared room. That is 60E ($80) which is close to your requested budget. Anything further out will have the added cost of getting in and out of Rome.

Raymond, try Suites Piazza del Popolo. We paid 90 euros for a double last May. This is a large condo that the owners converted to a b&b. The rooms are large, beautifully decorated with modern, clean bathrooms. Breakfast is continental, but you'll have access all day long to the refrigerator and cold beverages and an espresso machine. The location is between the Borghese Gardens and the Tiber in a neighborhood that is mainly residential. The b&b host suggested some terrific local restaurants. Travel to the main tourist areas is easy with the modern tram that runs right by the front door and then connects at the Piazza del Popolo with the metro and bus lines. We actually walked down to the tourist areas several times. Check out the review on TripAdvisor, or write if you have questions.

Raymond, as everyone has said, you may have some difficulty finding an accommodation in your price range - certainly in the centro area. You might look near Roma Termini or perhaps in the Vatican/Prati area. Both of these areas are well connected by the bus and metro and you can get to the centro area quickly and conveniently. Here are a couple of links that have the "best rated" accommodations by booking.com and venere.com guests for these two areas. The articles also have a link (near the bottom) which ranks the areas by PRICE, which with your budget restrictions may be the way to go. So click on Prati-Vatican Area or Roma Termini for these options. Not sure how many days you'll be in Rome, but you might also think about an apartment to further reduce your costs? There are plenty of low cost options out there, but do read the comments to get the best options for you. Good Luck!

Downtown Accomodations or B&B Smart should be in your price range.

I enjoyed my stay here in October: www.arenahouse.com Nice folks, simple room, quiet location, very close to Colosseum. Was 80 euros/night for 1 person.
