We have an early morning flight out of Rome's Fiumicino Airport. We would like a hotel recommendation near the airport.
karen, Depending on how early your flight is, the Rome Airport Hilton mentioned in Ron's web link is certainly a good option to consider (provided it won't strain your budget too much). The Artist's Bar in the Hotel is a great place for a Coffee, Vino or a nice lunch. It is indeed in a very convenient location to the airport. When exiting the front door of the Hotel, walk about 50 feet (slightly to the left along the driveway) to a small elevator which will take you to the walkway level. The long covered walkway has a "moving sidewalk" installed in some sections so it's a fairly easy trip. At the end of the walkway, you can choose your direction to T1, T2, T3 or the rail station. Happy travels!
I stayed at the Hilton several years ago. Agree that the location can't be beat if you have an early morning flight, but it was $$$$. Guess that's the trade off!
Please read this before you decide to stay near the airport: http://www.roninrome.com/%20transportation/getting-to-fiumicino-early-in-the-morning His first sentence is this:
On many travel sites, this seems to be one of the most frequently asked questions. Many travelers ask the question differently. Most often it's phrased as, "I have an early morning flight from FCO and would like to know the best Airport Hotel to stay at – Can you make a recommendation?"
Thanks for pointing this out. I will have spent a week in Rome, but then will be
coming back with my two kids from the southern coast. So for my last night I would rather stay somewhere convenient or at least a reasonable cab ride away.
Then I hope you followed that link, since he has info on several airport hotels. Happy travels.
And unfortunately if you stay at the Airport Hilton and you're headed back to the States DIRECT on a US-flagged carrier, you'll have to depart from Terminal 5 at FCO - which unlike the other Terminals (1,2,or 3) is NOT walkable from the Hilton (or any hotel for that matter!). You'd have to take a free airport shuttle (after you walk from the Hilton to the main terminals area) or a taxi which would be quite epensive even for a less than 1 mile ride. I'm still a big fan of NOT staying at the airport, yet I do understand the thought of convenience. For me, I'll spend my last night in Rome, Paris, London, etc. and catch a taxi 30 minutes earlier the next morning. In Rome, you'll miss this! Good Luck on your journey.
I don't know if I would do it again. We returned a car there late from our Tuscany tour so it worked out. But for my flight out of FCO in a few weeks I am staying in Rome and will just have the shuttle driver pick us up in plenty of time to get to Terminal 5!
