Hotels or B and Bs in Ortigia and Palermo?

After many itinerary changes we have decided to go to Sicily in April. Wondering if anyone has suggestions for accomodations in either of these spots. We would be open to an apartment as well, but generally enjoy the smaller type of hotels/guesthouses with a breakfast. Would like to keep under 200 euros a night if possible.

One other side question, how feasible is a daytrip from Siracusa to say Noto or Ragusa, and would you bother, or just enjoy Siracusa. This might impact how many nights we spend in each.

In Ortigia, we stayed at Hotel Gukowski. It was right by the water (though no views) and the market. There was a breakfast, spotless and reasonably priced.

In Palermo we stayed at La Terrazza Sul Centro. It is in a former palazzo. I do not believe there was an elevator. Exceptional views, wonderful terrace and lovely breakfast.

Please check the websites and reviews on Booking.com to be sure it will work well for you. We loved them both, they were smaller properties with helpful staff.

I will be staying at this location in Palermo that has been recommended by others quite often. When I’m traveling solo, I’m very picky that it’s in a central & a safe area and close to restaurants in the evening.

I reserved it for five nights on their own website because it was cheaper to book directly. Usually I book on Booking.com.

Our trip at Christmastime 2012, we had an apartment for a week in Rome, before flying to Sicily, where it was all B&B’s. While more and more, I like being able to fix breakfast without having to get dressed and ready yet for the day, in late December, it was cold and the days were short, so getting dressed and being able to see sights right after breakfast was preferable. Maybe April would be different. Unfortunately, while we toured in and around lots of Sicily that trip, we didn’t stay in either Palermo or Ortigia, so I don’t have specific lodging to recommend.

However, I would suggest that, if you’re looking at daytrips from Ortigia, consider Modica. It’s stunning, has a special, unique chocolate shop, and we stayed there at a palazzo where the current family member accepted lodgers and provided a wonderful breakfast.

We are going to Sicily in April 2024. After looking at review I booked La Terrazza sul Centro in Palermo prior to our RS Best of Sicily tour.

Thank you for the suggestions, just what I was looking for. Modica looks interesting too!

Noto is easy to get to from Siracusa/Ortigia.
We went for the day back in April.
We took the train there, then accidentally found the bus stop in Noto to go back to Siracusa, so did that.

The train station in Siracusa is also next to the bus “station”, really just a few stops along a road and a bench.
Very easy and enjoyable day trip.
Buy tickets as you go.
I’m assuming getting to Modica and Ragusa will be much the same.

We also stayed at Terrazza sul Centro in Palermo, last October., small room but nice terrasse and breakfast, you cant beat the location. But no elavator so be ready to climb at least 3 stories.
In Ortigia we had an apartment. Noto is an easy daytrip from Syracusa train station. You pay for your ticket onboard. We had 3 nights in Ortigia, and one day was use to visit Noto.

In Ortigia we stayed at Palazzo del Sale and enjoyed it: good location, nice decor, friendly and helpful host. We had a few rooms booked and each was different--deluxe rooms were better, IMO.
