Hotels or B and B's in Milan

I cross checked some of the moderately priced Rick Steves recommendations with Trip Advisor and they are not looking so hot. Rick does not have a ton of recommendations listed. Anyone stayed at an affordable Milan spot? Usually I just trust the book recommendations and go but these don't look as great.

We really enjoyed staying at the Best Western Hotel Major in Milan last year. We were not only greeted by a friendly front desk staff but also free mid-afternoon espresso in the lobby. Our room was very comfortable and modern with dual paned windows. The next morning we enjoyed a large breakfast buffet with cappuccino. What was great about this hotel was its proximity to the yellow line of the metro system. In a short amount of time, we were in the city center. The Best Western chain of hotels is of higher quality in Europe than in the States. Highly recommend this property.

We always stay at the 4 star Hotel Berna located about 400 meters from Stazione Centrale on Via Napo Torriano 18. It is a great property with the best breakfast in Milano and the reviews on tripadvisor.com are always good. Buon viaggio,
