I am looking for suggestions on hotels near the Train Station in Rome. I will be a arriving in Rome from Civitavecchia on a Sat then departing Sunday afternoon to go to Florence. I have a short stay (24 hrs) and a tour guide for a day 1/2 so I want to be as close to the train station as possible to reduce my departure time and trekking around with my luggage. Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Marjorie
Marjorie, You could also consider Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen, both of which are close to Roma Termini. I've stayed at both, and found the rooms to be very comfortable (most recently at Hotel Sonya). When will this trip be taking place? I'd highly recommend booking the Hotel as soon as possible. Happy travels!
Marjorie, I really like The Beehive hostel. They have choices of co-ed dorms, private rooms and even apartments using www.crosspolinate.com. It is a short walk of maybe 3 city blocks to The Beehive from Termini (assume you meant the main train station in Rome). Yellow colored, so it stands out and easy to find. Ciao, Linda.
For exactly the reason you state we used the Hotel Contilla - two blocks from the south (side door) of Termini. And across from a laundry if you need a few clothes washed. Sonya is a good choice also but it is six blocks or so away fromo the station and Aberdeen is twice as far.
According to google maps Hotel Sonya is just a 5 minute walk.....
Heard Hotel Sonya good choice. Good Luck
I can't agree with Google Maps, as I found that Hotel Sonya was at least a 10-minute walk. It's not far, especially when you know the way and it's a really nice Hotel.
Thanks for all the great tips. I will check them all out. I am not traveling until November so I have time to do a little research. I do want to be able to walk from the train station to my hotel easily as I am traveling alone and have to haul my luggage with me. I also don't want to pay too much for a room I will just be sleeping in since I will be out and about as much as possible. Grazie Mille! everyone
I too have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen and have booked them again for a visit in February. (rate of approx 60E).
Marjorie, Not sure how you feel about hotel vs B&B, but we stayed at B&B Smart. It's a 3 block walk from the train station (I was even trailing a wheeled carry on). The rooms where clean and cheerful, the breakfast was lovely and the proprietress was helpful and friendly.

I agree with the last poster that the place to stay is the Beehive. It is a wonderful space that is owned and operated by an American family living in Rome. It is not only a hotel/hostel but an art space as well. It even has a restaurant. Wonderful place. You will love it.
