looking at hotel bookings in Positano, most show no availability for June.
are they actually booked solid this early, or does it just look that way because the hotel(s) doesn't open until April and the booking system/schedule isn't open yet?

Positano is a top tourist destination with limited lodging. Perhaps u could look at adjacent villages to Stay in.Amalfi, Ravello, Priano to name a few. Sorrento further north but on the bus route is a much larger town with more lodging options.

Both are possibilities. I'd lean toward the latter, but I'm not trying to plan a trip that's only 3 months away. One way to test is to try to book for earlier, maybe a week or two after Easter. If they are still showing booked solid, then chances are the latter.
Someone else recently posted that they couldn't book for September on the AC.

If you have a specific place you're interested in, email them directly. I've learned that online reservation systems have their limitations - and getting the answer to your question is one of them.
