We will be visiting Verona in late September. Would appreciate suggestions for comfortable hotels in the city. ( we will be traveling by train and will not have a car) Thanks.

sue, You could have a look at Hotel Europa, which is just off Piazza Bra. It's a great location and I found the room to be very comfortable. Hotel Torcolo is also very popular, but they were booked up on my last visit so I haven't stayed there yet. Even for travel in late September, I'd suggest making reservations soon. Happy travels!

We stayed at the Hotel Bologna last May for 4 nights. It is in a great location - just off the Piazza Bra. In fact, our window looked out into the Piazza and we could even view a bit of the Arena. The cost was about 100 Euro per night, very reasonable. The hotel was very clean. The room was a bit small, but otherwise fine. Breakfast buffet was very good. There is a great restaurant just across the street from the hotel - the Le Cantine de l'Arena. We actually ate there 3 times. The outdoor seating gives you a view of the Arena and part of the Piazza.

Hotel Aurora right on Piazza Erbe is my choice in Verona. Close to everything. Wonderful staff. Will be there again this fall.
