Starting a cruise in Venice but coming in early for a couple of days to see the sights. Looking for a hotel with direct water taxi service as we are not traveling light & don't want to haul our luggage through the streets of Venice. (especially after 15 hr. of air travel.) We've seen that and it's not pretty! The hotel websites are not thorough in their details regarding how close they are to canal stops. Looking for mid range hotels. Help!? Thanks !

We were in Venice just a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the Laconda Art Deco about 300 metres from a water taxi stop but a little tricky to find. When there I noticed at the Rialto Bridge the Rialto Hotel right there on the waterfront -- not sure how expensive it would be.

Stayed at the Locanda Vivaldi earlier this year it is right on the waterfront. It also has its own water taxi dock.

We stayed at the Locanda Orseolo and they had water taxi access. Be aware that if the tides are high when you arrive in Venice, the water taxi may not be able to get directly to your hotel, but a little ways away, so don't pick a hotel solely based on water taxi access. If you login in to the forums at Cruisecritic.com you can meet up with others on your cruise and possible share a water taxi ride with them. We did that and it was much more economical and still a great way to go.

Your post is a little confusing. Virtually every hotel on the islands of Venice (not the mainland, not Mestre) will have a place that a taxi can draw up. The canal stops you speak of I assume are the several stops on the Grand and Guidecca canals which the vaporetti stop at. They are further apart. Which do you mean?

We just don't want to hassle with navigating through the streets of Venice with luggage. We've seen people struggle with that when we were there before so I am looking for the more conveniently located hotels that the taxis can service more than I'm looking at the vaporetti stops. However, I would be interested to know if there is a way I can find out where the vaporetti stops are since I'm sure it would be cheaper. THanks for any help here.

Melissa, there are some decent hotels near P. Roma if you want to stay closer to the cruise port and you can find the vaporetto map on this page: http://www.venice.nu/boats-trains-buses/vaporetto-map/
