going to Venice for 1st time in May 2009 - want affordable but pleasant accommodation - 4 twin beds in 2 rooms or similar - hoping for picturesque location, quiet but easy to get to - and final need - easy to get to Marco Polo airport for obscenely early international flight out. Hoping to avoid the "hilton by the airport" approach...We want to feel the real Venice. Any suggestions? appreciate the help.
Anne: Two hotels rooms in Venice, in May "in a picturesque location where you can experience the real Venice", are going to be expensive, so brace yourself. A good guide to a large number of good value accommodations (not inexpensive but good value) is Rick's Venice 2009--he lists many more than we can list here.
Dear Anne,
When I waslast in Venice we stayed in the castello district, about 7 bridges north from san marco square, along the via garibaldi. It's a 3 star hotel with 5 star perks located right on the lagoon. There are plenty of resturants and istros' along the garibaldi. A friend of mine who spends about 6 months of the year in venice, says that this entire area is where the venetian go to hide from the torists crowding san marco's. We really love he hotel and the surroundig area andare looking forward to return. The cost is relatively low, i'm just getting ready to go back at the end of july and the average cost for the hotel is $141 anight. You can also go online and check at expedia, making sure you indicate you need a hotel close to the airport. They also have a 1-800 number to call to get help. I found 1 hotel that was situated on the island of Murano, near the class making
