Hotels in Venice

Has anyone stayed in either the Hotel Fontana or Alloggi Barbaria in Venice? It seems those are the only two hotels that I can snag reservations for in May. Comments on Trip Advisor and Rick Steves say that Alloggi Barbaria is far from the sights. Exactly how far? What some people consider a 20 minute walk may be a 10 minute walk for others.

How long is your stay in Venice. Many hoteliers hold out for a minimum 3-day stay when things get busy. I ran into this last year on my visit to Venice.

If you are staying 1-2 nights, check out the Hotel Messner. It's in Rick's book. They too wanted 3 nights but they do have a 1-star annex about 200 feet from the hotel where we stayed for one night. It was nice and quiet plus you do get breakfast with the regular hotel people in the morning. It's 1-2 vaporetto stops across the Grand Canal from San Marco.

This late Id grab one.Venice is easily walkable and Barbaria doesnt look like it would be a long walk from Rialto or SanMarco.
