We will be staying in Venice for 2 days prior to our cruise out of Ravenna. First time in Venice so we will do the usual sights. There will be 6 adults and 2 teenagers. Looking for a good central location for sightseeing since we are not familiar with the city. Not looking for a budget hotel but not one that will break the bank either. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
How many rooms do you need?
- 3 will have two adults in them and the 4th two teenagers who will each need their own bed. Why do you ask?
A good place to start your search is Booking.com
Use the filters for location , budget, amenities, #beds/rooms
You can trust the reviews there as those can only be left by folks who have actually stayed at the property
Reviews can also be filtered
You don’t say what time of year but you will probably want air conditioning
You may also want an elevator, bkft, etc
You can book on Booking.com or find the property website
You can also search here on this forum
Filter results by Type and Date

For a short stay with a large group, get a place close to Piazzale Roma/Venezia SL train station so you don’t need to screw around with expensive water buses or taxis , or finding some obscure place with your bags, and your entry and exit from Venice will be easiest. There’s a well marked walking route from there to Rialto Bridge and San Marco that takes about 40 minutes. Something like Hotel Olimpia.
My wife and I stay in a convent ! Stayed twice at Istituto San Guiseppe. Located midway between Rialto and San Marco. Good price. Not restricted to Roman Catholics or the religious. We booked the first time thru www.monasterystays.com and the second directly with the convent which saves some.

people here on the forum are volunteers to help and give the best info for you. your others post mention 8 people and we have no idea what entails as in hotel rooms. could be 2 family rooms with 4 in each one, didn't know ages but do now teenagers, still don't know dates and if summer time could be slim pickens, what does not budget hotel but not breaking bank mean in euros, rooms are usually small and you say "lots of luggage", age of teenagers would help, if they can stay if 18-21 years of age. some may have policies that say no.
remember hotel check-in times are 3-4pm and check out times are 10-11am. if too early to check in where do you put luggage.
booking.com (check filters on left side what you hope and want)
look near piazzale roma/train station, look at directions how far to walk with pulling/pushing luggage over cobblestones/uneven pavement, up and over bridges with stairs/steps. you can look at some and come back to ask the forum here about them. reviews are done by people that have stayed in them. good luck and happy hunting. have a great vacation

Have you considered all staying under one roof? Venice Red House is a reputable company that rents out entire aparments, some large enough to accomodate your entire group.

Typically, the minimum night stay is 3 nights, but you could email them and ask if 2 nights would be doable.
