Our 1st trip to Italy is coming up, any suggestions for a one to two night in Venice? After Venice we are headed down for the 10 day Rick Steves Sicily tour
The Ca del Dose is near the dock for the Alilaguna boat to the airport. It is a "boutique" hotel with few rooms and very nice owners. The location is not far from a nice big piazza, a few churches, and San Marco. The Bridge of Sighs is nearby.
Nate, you might try Pensione Guerrato or Albergo Doni (check their respective websites or the Guidebooks for further details). Happy travels!
I have stayed both at hotel Fontana and Locanda al Leon, both in Rick Steve's book, close to transportation, and St Marks. Second less expensive than the first, both were enjoyable!
Pensione Guerrato is where the RS groups stay in Venice. We've stayed there twice and can't recommend it highly enough. They're great and it's a wonderful location.
We just stayed at the Pensione Guerrato and I agree that it is a good choice. The location was very good and it was easy to find with the hotel's directions.
loved the Hotel san Giorgio located between the Rialto and San Marco stayed there two years ago and will be there 5 nights next week. Called them direct they remembered me or at least they said they did and gave me a better rate than what I could find on the net or that they had published. Looking forward to another great trip.
I have stayed at Hotel Tivoli, and will be there a while soon. Inexpensive, clean, family-run, interesting and convenient neighborhood, and the breakfast is included. The hotel has an outdoor space (garden) available for eating or just hanging-out. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station and near the Frari Chapel. I think the vaporetto stop is S. Toma.
We stayed at Ca'Bonvincini, which we did not find through RS but instead through a friend who had stayed there. It is a couple min from San Stae vaporetto stop and about 5-10 min walk to Rialto. AMAZING rooms (the bathroom was nicer than the one I have in our apartment), fantastic service, and the price was surprisingly reasonable for Venice, which seemed to cost almost 1 1/2 times any of our other hotels in Italy.
Have stayed several times in Hotel Campiello's apartments which are a few steps from the hotel. The apts. were very nice and I would think the hotel is too. Great location on a quiet street just off the Riva and easy to find.
My wife and I just returned from a trip to Italy and stayed at the Pensione Guerrato in Venice for two nights (not long enough). I would highly recommend it, as it is centrally located near the Rialto bridge (which is a major vaporetto stop) and the proprietor's are genuinely nice people. You will not be disappointed.
My husband and I stayed at the Locanda Art Deco hotel at the San Samuele vaparetto stop (recommended by RS). Very nice place, a little tricky to find -- their sign is TINY but near a nice piazza and close to Saint Marks and the Rialto areas (about in the middle of both). Go to www.locandaartdeco.com for more info. I would go back -- rooms were clean with a nice sized bathroom and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
just got back and we stayed 4 nights at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo ~ HIGHLY recommend.
We used Venere.com for all of our hotel stays throughout Italy. I would search the city, review the hotel reviews and pictures and then book. We stayed at the Ca Leon D'Oro near the Rialto Bridge. 65 euro booked the day before (October). It was small, but clean and centrally located. No elevator and we were on the top floor, but had use of our own private balcony.
We were just at Locanda Orseolo for 3 nights last week...the best place ever! They did everything to make our stay trouble-free, fun, and memorable. Rooms are small but lovely, and the breakfast is spectacular. THe staff--especially Bruno, Gigi and Barbara--treat you like old friends. The location also cannot be beat.
