Hotels in Venice

We will be visiting Venice next May for the first time. There are so many hotels to choose from. Where to start?? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We are staying 4 nights but do not want a 5 star hotel!

OK, my hotel is the Bisanzio. Just off the Riva by the Chiesa Pieta, easy walk to San Marco, and to Castello to get away from the crowds. Great service.

We have been to Venice 4 times and have never stayed in a hotel. We stayed at this charming B&B once, but then moved onto apartments for longer stays. This is our favorite but can be hard to secure in high season. Search VRBO.com or Booking.com for other options.

What is your budget, in Euro?
Do you have any specific requirements (such as elevator or canal view)?

thanks for the replies all. Our budget would be less than 250 euros and we do not need a canal view.

I stayed at a small hotel on a little piazza facing a small church. Nothing fancy, but plenty of European charm, close to San Marco's Hotel Bel Sito and Berlino. It should be in your price range. Good breakfast and great location. Close to everything and quiet. Look it up on Trip Advisor and Booking.com

A longtime RS favorite is the Pensione Guerrato. We've stayed there twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very good location and very helpful staff.

Our most recent stay in Venice was in Dorsoduro, at Casa Rezzonico, a small and charming B&B on a side canal. You can choose a room with a view of the canal or of the lovely garden in the back. Highly recommended. Both are well within your budget. We picked a room with the canal view and really enjoyed it.

I stayed at Gio Gio B&B and loved it. It was at a vaparetto stop so easy access all over the city. It's between San Marco and the Accedemia. Easy walking access to both area's.

We stayed at the Hotel Campiello. It was a great deal. Very clean, nice staff, good breakfast, well located.

We also stayed at Pensione Guerrato and were very happy with our time there. By Venice standards it is quite reasonably priced. We had a corner room that over looked the market and had a small view of the canal. We would stay there again.

We just returned from a stay at Hotel Gardena, close to the Santa Lucia railroad station. They have a website. It was on a small canal and about 100 meters from the best non-tourist wine bar in Venice, Barcareto Da Lele, 0.7 Euro sandwiches and 0.9 Euro glass of wine. they have a website. The vaporetto stop was so handy to get anywhere we wanted but we could escape San Marco and the teeming hordes to return to the real Venice. On past the wine bar is the Hotel Failer and across the canal is a small shop selling custom jewelry of Morano glass for bargain prices. We were the only tourists at the Barcareto Da Lele and I was able to order in my limited Italian with help from some of the locals that frequented the place. Some "experts" disdain the area near the RR station but then they probably don't get a kickback from hotels around there.... We found it to be delightful.

Hotel al Piave (recommended in the RS guidebook) worked well for us a couple of months ago. It's just across a small canal from Campo Santa Maria Formosa, reasonably convenient both to San Marco and to Ponte Rialto, but safely and serenely away from the tourist throngs.

We stayed at Locanda Orseolo this past August and loved it. It's classified as a B&B and is highly rated on Trip Advisor. The room rate was extremely reasonable and we even got a room with a canal view which we weren't expecting for the rate we paid. The location is superb, on the Orseolo Canal near St. Mark's Square & 10 minutes from the Rialto area. The room was comfortable and clean and the included breakfast was really nice and it included eggs/omelets and/or fruit crepes in addition to the standard breakfast options. The B&B also has a water landing which was nice; we took a private water taxi from the airport to the B&B. Have a great trip!!

I just stayed at the American Dinesen hotel, in Dorsoduro area of Venice. Excellent location and lovely hotel on picturesque side canal. Near the Academia bridge and vaporetto stop. Very nice staff. Would stay there again for sure. It's rated highly on TripAdvisor too.

We have twice stayed at Ca Dogaressa both times in the jr suite with canal view. We like the Cannareggio area a lot. On our third trip we stayed at hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo and it was nice but liked the first area better. People at both hotels were very friendly and helpful. Have a great trip!

We recently stayed at the hotel Al Piave. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. It was on a quiet street and once you closed the shutters you could not hear any noise.
