Any recommendations for hotels in Venice that are not $1000 a night. We will be there mid October after a cruise. We want to be in a convenient location.
Hi, there’s so many that could fit into that category! Maybe give us more info of what you’re looking for in a room. How do you define a convenient location - close to the train station or close to St. Marks (San Marco) piazza, or convenient that you don’t have to take your luggage over several bridges?
If it’s to be close to San Marco and not have any bridges to a vaporetto or taxi boat stop, I like Hotel Ala. I’ve stayed there several times.

how many people, what's your budget in euros, dates of stay, amenities needed or want, mobility issues? where are you hearing $1000 a night? what port are you arriving at and will you need transportation? october is a busy month, harvest time & look to see if any festival happening?

Thank you for your responses. It is just my husband and I. Our ship will disembark in Fusina. .
Our travel agent wanted to make a reservation at the Gabrielli Hotel. Three nights at the Gabrielli Hotel, which is brand new. For a "good introductory" rate the approximate total for the three nights is 2740 euros including breakfast and taxes for a prestige room with king bed. That seemed a bit high to us. I know we can find something for less. ( We probably will not be using her next year.)
I assume we should be near the Grand Canal.
See if Hotel Ala has availability or any nice hotel in that vicinity

We enjoyed our stay at Ca' Delle Acque Deluxe Apartment R&R. It is a beautiful modern apartment with a washer. Spotlessly clean, in a perfect location central to most sites, and on the canal with the water taxi nearby. It is a 2 bedroom apt, but it’s handled by a management company and they do have other apartments available.
Hotel Paganelli. I have stayed there twice. Water views (lagoon, not canal), lovely breakfast, near Bridge of Sighs.
I definitely think 2700 Euros is too much!! Plenty of other options.
We have been to Venice several times and always saved $$ by staying in the area near the Main Train Station.
I highly recommend Hotel Agli Alboretti in the Dorsoduro district. The rate for 4 nights in May was 1142 euros, including breakfast. Our room was a good size with a huge bathroom and a separate sitting room. Location is perfect; a one-minute walk from the Accademia Bridge and vaporetto stop. About a 5-minute walk from Zattere on the Guidecca Canal. Dorsoduro is much less crowded than San Marco. If we return to Venice, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

you don’t need a travel agent, my own opinion they want to offer you more expensive places to earn their “profit/kickbacks”. mindset is if you can book a viking cruise you can offered higher places. so many places to stay at different costs and where you want to stay within your budget in euros. we have stayed in san polo, off the grand canal near train station, canareggio. dorsoduro and santa croce, san marco (can get really busy/crowded). are you returning to venice or another city? don’t wait till last minute for transportation issues getting to and from. no stressing

on left side click your filters, mobility issues/what floor/stairs or steps/shared bathrooms/cancellation policies.
stay near grand canal but not on it, it’s a busy boat highway on day. look at hotels and ask questions here before booking for good or bad
if not, free registration on cruisecritic.com forums, find your roll call with your ship (what viking ship are you on), post question with other cruisers (we’ve shared private water taxis to cut costs, private tours at ports- no more than 6 people, meet up dinner/lunch day before sailing with others- we had 6 couples meet up at Bacaro jazz club near rialto and then sat together on deck at sail away. it was fun, did a martini tasting at one of the ship’s bars. haven’t been a viking cruise ship, don’t know what they have/offer. enjoy

My wife and I stay at the convent/inn Istituto San Guiseppe. Great location midway between Rialto and San Marco. Good price. Vacancy many days in mid Oct. monasterystays.com
Anyone familiar with
HOTEL NANI MOCENIGO Venezia
Fondamenta Nani 960
30123 Venezia - Dorsoduro
It’s near the Peggy Guggenheim museum.
a good travel agent will suggest the best options in your budget, so push back on that :) (but they still might be able to get SOME kind of perks for you in your hotel stay, even within a particular budget! woo!)
holy cow that place looks grand :)
But also, it depends on the particular day you are wanting to stay there, there might be events that are making one night more expensive than another.....(I was going to try to look up all the options suggested here, but who knows what day it is to get accurate pricing)
We found the hotel ourselves. The less expensive ones that the travel agent found after she presented us with the expensive one, did not look as grand and were on San Marco. I like this location and the price is right!
oooo then way to go! if that works for your budget and you like the neighborhood, go for it! I would research the neighborhood to find the closest waterbus stop and how to get there from your cruise ship (or better yet, ask the concierge to send you some info! they already did your research for you!) and maybe a restaurant or two (or have the concierge do it haha) for dinner that night and you are all set!
Best part is we are using sapphire Visa points.
Good idea about the concierge.
An art acquaintance who was from Venice told me he knows the area quite well ..He had his gallery not far from there...He said the area is nice especially at night...quiet...it's a good walk to everything..but good news is that the vaporetto is close by ...the pinault foundation is there, so is the accademia...and the Peggy Guggenheim museum. Sergio also gave us a list of restaurants.

happy you have a place to stay and a gorgeous place you'll enjoy. don't know how many days you are in venice, here's few things we did and if any interests to you:
we did walk thru the jewish ghetto, no tour. walked through like a tunnel to the ghetto walked out the other side tunnel to the canals of canareggio. very quiet area where residents live with small shops/restaurants/cafes really like this uncrowded area. we stopped at ristorante diana, sat a table canal side for lunch & wine. (friend i traveled with is diane so of course we had to stop:)
schezzini.it
alessandro does a bar tour "ciccheto". small bites "tapas" in a few local bars to pick and chose what you want to nibble on, taste white or red wine plus learn some history about venice. he's mentioned a lot here. email him in the contact area.
macroblog.com/ harry's bar venice for famous bellinis. sat at bar, had their famous $$ peach bellini, had to we're tourists. also read up about bacaro crawl and cicchetti. after we roamed to rialto bridge and further on
we did a gondola ride with luckyluca, the singing gondolier ([email protected]) email him to reserve, we met right near the jewish ghetto, went up & down smaller canals then crossed over the grand canal and he sang to us. it was great. prices are fixed for daytime and more for sunset/nighttime rides. he's been around a long time, family owned gondola, clean, dressed nicely in traditional outfit and super nice/friendly. there were 4 of us friends celebrating first trip for 2, brought bottle of prosecco & plastic glasses from apartment to enjoy.

several self guided walks offered in venice, you will need to download them. you can also use in other cities.
rossiwrites.com/ treviso
get out of the hustle and bustle of venice. short train ride 30-35 minutes to treviso, home to tiramisu & radicchio, near proseeco vineyard region, art and historic sights along the small canals.
taking a vaporetto to burano & murano islands. make sure to buy a 3 day pass which is cheaper than buying for every ride. also validate before getting on at little box, don't want a fine right then and there
look for vaporetto availability from fusina to a stop near your hotel, venicelink.com click shuttle and they offer shared private water taxis, motoscafivenezia.it is another to hire private water taxi.
so many things to see and do without getting bored. good luck have a great time

We just stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo. It was fabulous. About a 12 minute walk from the Rialto but only about $320 per night.
