I am looking for one or two star hotels in Venice. We want to stay three or four days. Give me the good, the bad and ugly.
Pat,
You might have a look at Albergo Doni. It's in a VERY convenient location close to Piazza San Marco, and located in an historic building that used to be a palace or something. It's not luxurious, but very comfortable and the rates were good.
Check their website or the Italy 2010 guidebook for further information.
Happy travels!
Check out the Tivoli Hotel in Dorsoduro on tripadvisor (not in Rick Steves' books). Great location near Campo Santa Margherita, far enough away to be quiet, lots of restaurant/bar choices nearby, sort of midway betwwn Rialto and San Marco areas (15 min. walk to each). Basic rooms, but clean and comfortable. Got a single with bath for 70E in October.
I stayed at La Calcina in the Dorsoduro. Great location IMHO. It was 90E/night for a single during Carnevale - which is the highest rate of the year. The breakfast (included) was excellent and they had free wi-fi. Clean, excellent service.
Are you willing to take a shared bath? You will definitely get a better rate in Venice that way. The Dorsoduro tends to be cheaper than other areas.
I like Hotel Doni near St.Marks.However I like Guarrato better.Near Rialto and market.
WE really liked Dimora Marciana which is on a quiet alley near St. Mark Square. They were reasonably priced, the breakfast was good and they have only been open a year so everything is new. We paid 150 Euros/night in Sept/Oct 2009. Not bad for Venice!
