Any suggestions for hotels in Venice - not too pricey, I hope.
What time of year (month)? How many people? How many nights? Are you arriving in Venice by train or plane?
All these factors are important to consider in choosing a hotel.
Venice is very prices, but for budget lodgings, look for small hotels or B&Bs in the area close to the main railway station (also the nearby Piazzale Roma.

Google Pensione Guerrato and see if it will meet your needs. If you do book there, we can give short cut directions that will save a lot of walking with the luggage.
Thank you everyone for replying. It will just be my husband and myself and we are going in September - staying either 2 or 3 nights. I will check into all of the suggestions that you have given me. We went a few years ago and loved where we stayed, but I no longer have my notes (we moved), so have to start my search over again. Appreciate you all very much.
We like the quiet back canals of the Cannaregio area, and Hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente is our favorite. Check it out on booking.com, but book directly for a better price. Lovely happy hours right on the canal. It is very charming and has great service. You can take sunset pix without other folks mucking up your shots. Enjoy!
The Pensione Guerrato was the tour hotel for our October VFR Tour. I loved it: the location, the ambiance, the staff, and our room. It was such a great introduction to Venice, as well. Two left turns as you're exiting the hotel and you're looking at the Rialto Bridge!
We've stayed at Hotel Campiello twice, due to its great location and convenience to the vaporetto stop by St. Marks. It is discussed in the RS guidebook.
