We are trying to decide where to spend about 5 nights, in the historic area. Looking at Hotel Navona, Smeraldo, Giardino or the Hotel Campo Di Fiori to complete the end of a Rick Steves Tour. Any suggestions from someone who has been recently. They are all about the same price and rating on Trip Advisor....Thank you.
Just back from Campo di Fiori. Not sure about their apartments but we had the best value price room (darker and no real window. Nice hotel, great service, small but pretty rooms with good beds, very modern bathroom with great shower. Beautiful roof top area where you can enjoy a bottle of wine (bring your own & they will open for you). Campo has the market during the days (don't miss the spice guy) and bar action at night. Rooms quiet though. They were the best at answering my emails. Piazza Navona's fabulous fountain is under renovation so not quite as fun.
I stayed at the Hotel Navona in August. It was very nice, we were on the fifth floor (walk up) The air conditioning did not work and it was a little uncomfortable sleeping at nignt but they had a great rooftop patio and we would sit there at night and drink wine and have olives and cheese. I think that you have to stay on the 5th floor in order to have access to the roof. They did have 3 rooms on the 5th floor with a nice kitchen and dining room that was for all three rooms to share.
Just returned from my first trip to Rome/Florence. Stayed at Hotel Giordino on Via Nationale. Small B&B with a very friendly and helpful staff. Price included breakfast. Traveled with 16-yr-old. Our twin bed room was small but VERY clean. In room AC with remote control. It was extremely HOT on the street. Giordino is about a mile from Termini train station (we walked) and close to Trevi Fountain, etc.We were regulars on Bus 40 and 64. My feet are still recovering from the uneven cobblestones but we loved everything about Rome!
Hi Stephanie--I've stayed at the Smeraldo and really liked it. The rooms were renovated just a couple of years ago; they're nothing fancy but clean and nice. Mostly I loved being near Campo dei Fiori. I second the earlier poster's comments about the morning market and the bar scene at night. It's also within walking distance of so many sights. I like the atmosphere of the area; plenty of locals around, and I don't remember seeing that familiar Rick Steves' blue book in someone's hands even once.
