I am traveling with a small group (5 people) and would like advice on a reasonably priced (100 to 175 euro/night) hotel in Sorrento. We will use it as our home base to explore the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii. We will have a car. Thank you.
We (4 of us) will be using Sorrento as our home base in October and have rented a 4 bedroom villa for $1200-total-for the week! We will also have a car so this made sense to us. Found the villa online and am hoping it is as good as it sounds, but the price is certainly right! Good hunting.
We rented an apartment at Rota Suites (www.rotasuites.com) which are located right in the center of Sorrento just a short walk from Piazza Tasso and the train station. Each apartment can easily sleep four people (two in the separate bedroom and two on the couch in the living room)and they have a small, but adequate kitchen -- I also think they have several two-bedroom apartments. You are within walking distance to tons of restaurants and shops and the front desk staff speak very good English and are very helpful.
We rented our apt in Sorrento for 5 days from:

They had some great places that were VERY reasonable. We picked one right near the main street, close to every thing, and with a wonderful view. We paid $500 E for 4 of us in '04.( they took the weekly rate, divided by 7, and gave it to us for that for the 5 days that we wanted.)
We also use VRBO.com. They have been excellent, and can always be counted upon anywhere in the world.
We DID NOt need a car in order to be able to explore Naples and the Amalfi coast. If you are going to be driving, be prepared for some fun!
Michael, I vote for the Hotel Minerva! It's just lovely - you can walk into town and the property itself is well kept, clean, friendly staff, blah, blah. I do, however, suggest that you look into an apartment b/c they're always a better deal! Have a great time. MPD
