I have been trying to locate a hotel in Sorrento on Via Capo for a trip in September, 2012 and find that several of Rick's recommendations are already sold out. Are there other hotels in that area that you could suggest? Thank you.
We splurged and stayed in the stunning Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. It was absolutely amazing...perched high on the cliff over looking the beautiful blue sea and Vesuvius in the distance. This hotel has lots of gardens and a swimming pool as well as a sea bathing platform and lift all the way down through the rock from the hotel. The inclusive breakfast was a feast complete with champagne. It was definitely stunning.
Maureen, did I read your post correctly...Sept 2012 or did you mean 2011? I'm planning to be there Sept 2012 as well and thought I could start booking hotels in Sept of this year. I better get on it if they're already booking up for 2012.
The Minerva or the Bristol are both good hotels on Via Capo but not low budget. If it was me I would go with one of the cliff top hotels in town if you want a view but they do tend to be more expensive. Via Capo is a busy road and that puts me off staying there. Some of the other hotels and B&Bs in town although not sea front have great views from rooftop solariums/pools. September is still a busy time in Sorrento, the Italians may have gone back to work but the rest of us Europeans are still holidaying! Edit - if it is 2012 you are looking at, IME no hotel books that far ahead because of setting prices, maintenance requirements etc. Their booking systems might be defaulting to "full"
Maureen, As Sheron mentioned, it would be unusual for the Hotels to be fully booked for Sept. 2012. I doubt that they'll even be accepting reservations that far in the future. For Hotels on Via Capo, you might have a look at Settimo Cielo, La Tonnarella or Hotel Desiree (depending on your budget and preferences). Cheers!
Hi Maureen I agree with other posters that the booking systems just don`t take reservationds that far in advance. I would recommned that you check out Hotel Sorrento City-lots of advantages for easy day tripping, clean, and great staff. Cheers Mike

My family and I will be going to Sorrento next month. Had no problems making reservations getting a Hotel. We will be staying at Settimo Cielo.
If you want to splurge and stay in 1800's elegance, try the Excelsior Vittoria (http://www.exvitt.it/sorrento-hotel.html). The hotel is centrally located on Tasso Square overlooking the harbor. Very friendly and accomodating staff. FYI - while in Sorrento, find out which day the weekly market is. Well worth waliking around in for the cultural immersion!
For what it's worth, we stayed in Rick recommended Hotel Settimo Cielo on Via Capo in 2009 and hated it. Terrible breakfast, tacky, beat up rooms. Can't recommend it.
We've stayed at La Tonnarella 3 times and loved it.
