My family and I will be in Italy for 2 weeks in July and would like a hotel recommendation for Sirmione on Lake Garda, where we want to base ourselves for 2nd week of holiday.
Hi there.I just came back from the area.Actually didnt stay at any hotels since my brother lives nearby but we to took a couple of day trips. It is breathtaking. One day we drove around the lake and ended up taking the night stroll in Sirmione, the other day we spent a few hours at GARDALAND(a pretty good imitation of Disney World). The whole area is lined up with hotels and restorants so it won't be hard to find accomodations, just try to book ahead because in summer it is very crowded with german tourists. You can find some good info at this site:www.lagodigarda.it.I'm sure you will have a blast ,because it really is a hidden gem (at least to north americans).Good luck.
The best place to stay is the Marconi. It is right inside the old walled town and sits on the lake. It is family owned and they treat you like a guest in their home. The breakfast served is unbelievable - the father was a baker before they took over the hotel and a feast is produced every morning. Hopefully you can still get a reservation - they are booked a year in advance. Check the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com - it is one of the top rated and yet least expensive hotels in Sirmione.
Lesley, five years ago we stayed in Hotel Chiara in Sirmione, and liked it very much.
