My wife and I did a lot of research on hotels in Rome near the train station but close to touristy things to see. We are going next March. We reserved a room at Hotel Oceania with a rate of 79.00 Euro. Check it out http://www.hoteloceania.it/.

Would stay there again, should the opportunity present itself

I have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen 3 times. It is clean and very comfortable. The staff is helpful and attentive. The breakfast is very good, typical Italian with boiled eggs! The location is within walking distance to Termini and bus terminal. Walk to Spanish steps, and other attractions. The Trattoria Esperia across the street is really good . Great accommodations for the price, you can't get better.

I recommend the Hotel Sonya, Contilia, or Aberdeen - all are budget hotels in my opinion and I've stayed it each a time or 2. Perfect location to Central Train Station Rome.

I normally stay in Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen and would certainly recommend either of those. Both are close to Termini station.
