I have narrowed my search to a couple hotels. Should I stay near Villa Borghese or in Monti? I'll be walking, cab, or public transport to the sights. Thanks.
I would not want to stay near Villa Borghese as it is up a hill and away from the sites you may want to visit. I did stay in that area one time and felt cut off from Rome.
If you give us the names of the hotels (with links), you'll get better advice. e.g., is it north or south of Villa Borghese?
The one near Villa Borghese is NH Collection Roma Vittorio Veneta. I believe it is south. The rate was $179. Then the others were closer to the train station-- Mecante Palace $179, Hotel Mondial $121, and maybe Hotel Gallia.
I normally prefer to stay close to Termini station, and use either Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. Both are very comfortable hotels.
Look at Hotel Fori Imperiali Cavalieri in Monti. Family-run hotel, clean, good breakfast, rooftop terrace, very inexpensive for Roma. Between the Colosseo and via Cavour.
I took you recommendation for Hotel Fori Imperiali Cavalieri. Thank you so much!!!
You are welcome!
My wife & I visited Rome this past summer and stayed in the Monti neighborhood. We absolutely loved it! And if you chose to stay in that area I think you will agree. There is a fun piazza with a local neighborhood feel (I forgot the name). Seems to attract a young crowd at night however it remains low key. In other words, i think it was quaint & full of life.
Hope you have a great trip!
I also usually stay in the Termini area: Hotel Contila and Sonya are good for me - more budget hotels, but nice, clean, breakfasts, quiet, elevators, and walking distance to the Termini Station (only a couple blocks) and from there.... you can go just about anywhere. I also usually walk from this area to the Forum, Colosseum, Palatine Hill area.
