What is your price point? Do I assume correctly that if you are considering the via Venato that money is no object?

Do you have the Rick Steves Italy or Rome book? It's loaded with lodging recommendations for all budgets.

You could also check with venere.com, booking .com, and then cross reference a selection with tripadvisor.com. Both venere and booking will provide properties, map locations, and client reviews. Buon viaggio,

Roninrome.com has many recommendations as well. Beware of Trip Advisor, the competitor across the street can slam you, or the proprietor himself can give a glowing recommendation! I just found this out this year after posting many many honest reviews there myself. Booking.com and Venere.com both require a proof of stay before they allow you to post a review. Hotel Smerelda gets some bad reviews on T.A., but everyone on this site likes it! (Just a 'for instance') You can put in the search "near Spanish Steps" and look at the list.

thank you all for the suggestions. We don't want to pay more than $300.00 per night as we are sharing we can go up to that. Rita

I stayed at the hotel panda near the Spanish steps It was simple not fancy but a great location. 5 min walk to the metro and Spanish steps.

That's a limit of around €230. I would have suggested the Sofitel or several other of the 5 stars on via Veneto but they are all over your limit. I think via Veneto will be difficult. I don't know Spanish Steps - sorry.

Take a look at Hotel Due Torri. It is avout a 10 minute walk from the Spanish Steps and within walking distance of most everything. It's on a tiny alley street. Also air conditioned, which is important for a Rome summer visit. Nice buffet breakfast. We enjoyed it. Their website has a map of their location.
