Hello everyone, I think I found the neighborhood we want to stay in while in Rome (Navona/Pantheon), any personal suggestions for hotels/B&B? (Baths down hall fine but quiet/clean must! Just the hubby and I) Thanks!
Try Palazzo Olivia, very close to P. Navona, but we found it to be quiet, and it has A/C. They are apartments, and for the center of Rome, very reasonably priced. Very clean!
When you mention that quiet is a must, understand that being in the Navona/Pantheon area, there will be a lot of activity at night. Italians don't eat dinner until 9 or later, they stay out late. Additionally, hotels often do not have air conditioning. With the lack of AC, we kept our windows open at night, but this meant that the noise from the street would carry in quite loudly to our rooms. After a night or two we got used to it, and it wasn't a problem (I now remember it fondly, haha) but it was a problem at first. If you want quiet you may want to choose another area, or make sure your hotel has air conditioning (depending on what time of the year you're traveling).
First, that location is a wonderful choice. Second, the noise level of any particular lodging in Rome is greatly influenced by 1. Whether the windows open out onto a public street or piazza versus an inner courtyard 2. Whether you have AC (which is becoming more and more popular) 3. Whether the windows are sound-proofed 4. How high up you are off the street level 5. Whether you're right across from another building at least as high as your windows (echo effect)
6. Whether there is a nightclub down on the ground floor below you, etc. Because of this, you'll find HUGE differences even within one building, not to mention within a particular neighborhood. This is where TripAdvisor comments come in handy. Look for people complaining about the noise. Also remember, that many hotels have quiet rooms available if you just remember to ask. Happy travels.
We liked Hotel Due Torri located near Campo Fiori and the Pantheon. It is located on a tiny quiet street. The breakfast is excellent-English style buffet with anything you could want including toast and eggs. Bathroom was ensuite. Wonderful staff and we love the location.
