I could not find Rick's Italy book ( I used to have one) any recommendations for hotels in Milan?

In March 2011, we stayed at the Hotel Gran Duca di York (www.ducadiyork.com). It was listed in Rick's Italy book. It is more of a business hotel, but was clean, quiet, comfortable, served an excellent breakfast, and had a very helpful staff. Location-wise, it is literally across the street from the Pinoteca Ambrosiana and a 5-minute walk to the Duomo.

We enjoyed staying at the Best Western Major. Very modern, large rooms with a breakfast buffet included. Right by the metro station that takes you directly into central Milan.

I've stayed in the Hotel Berna and Hotel Garda in Milan. They are just a couple blocks from the main train station, lots of metro stations, restaurants, GREAT location. They were both excellent and considered budget hotel. The Berna is just a bit more than the Garda. (they are across the street from each other.)
You can research both and see photos on tripadvisor.
