Hotels in Lake Como and Trento, Italy

There will be three of us traveling in Northern Italy in Oct. and would love some recommendations of interesting places to stay that are a little more out of the way. And we would love to hear any other recommendations you might have. We will have a rental car. Looking forward to sharing some of your past adventures!!!!

We enjoyed Hotel Eremo Gaudio. Even though it is technically in Varenna, it is perched high on a hill with beautiful views of the lake. You have to ride an incline to get to the rooms.

Stayed in Trento on the piazza at Hotel Venezia. The rooms were well priced & clean.City itself was an interesting mix of German & Italian.First place I ever saw donkey on the menu.Beautiful frescoed architecture, good museums, quite cosmopolitan;I loved the dolomites & took a few drives into them to highlakes.Sorry I did not get as far north as Bolzano.Did drive a northern route, south down the Val Camonica to see the rock carvings at Capo di Ponte, then down to Bergamo and over to Varenna on Lake Como,a little town a bit more rustic than the others. You can climb to the old castle, visit lakeside gardens.I love Albergo Olivedo right at the ferry dock.Georgeous sunsets! You don't need a car at Lake Como. Boats go everywhere.Menaggio is also a nice town, but bigger, bustling & buses.City of Como also nice, but bigger yet.I was in that area in early October a few years ago & it was short sleeve weather. The June before,it was sweater weather.Take layers!

We have been to the Lake Como area on several occassions. You can stay in the heart of Menaggio at the Hotel DuLac (our favorite). It sits right in the main square. There is another hotel,Belle Vista, which is direct lake front but about a block from the center. Both hotels have a website.
You can also rent a little condo at this website:http://www.happyholidayhomesitaly.com/propiedades1.htm Lenno is another cute little town about 10 minutes south of Menaggio. We have also stayed at a hotel in Plinio, about 15 -20 minutes south of Menaggio, called Hotel Plinio which is in a very quite area. It is an absolutely beautiful area and you may even see some snow caps in the mountains in October. The weather lakeside should be light jacket wear in early October. You can take several ferry rides from town to town and even travel down to COmo from Menaggio via ferry. Have fun and say hello to Menaggio! Ciao

I stayed at Villa Belvedere in Argegno and just loved it. It is right on the lake literally and 1 minute from the ferry stop. It's a small family run hotel and has fabulous food. They also have a small car park and good luck driving the roads around the lake.
