I have been reading Rick's book Europe Through the Back Door in preparation for a trip to Italy in the spring. The section on hotels is quite interesting and gives a lot of food for thought. We have been given a gift of a stay in Rome at an American chain hotel. How do these compare to their counterparts in this country. Should we expect something different than what we are accustom to here?
They probably have a website with photos of the hotel in Rome. Might be worth checking out.
Well, American chains range from Motel 6 to Marriotts and everything in between. Yup, you will have one or two beds (very rare to have two huge beds - the rooms aren't big enough). Probably a shower or shower bath, or a bath. Curtains on the windows, a chair or two, maybe a place to hang stuff, maybe a desk. Maybe a phone. Some sort of TV, maybe a radio, probably not a radio. Probably a sheet and duvet, not sheets and a blanket. Maybe extra pillows, maybe a blanket in a cupboard. All of those will vary from chain to chain and location to location. So are we talking Motel 6 or Marriott? Or, the easiest way is as above, have a look at the websites and see what the photos show and the list of amenities in the rooms.
