My wife and I are taking our dream trip to Italy and will be driving from Livorno port to Florence and Tuscany for 5 days from 6/27-7/1. I have Rick's 2010 Italy book and it looks like there's alot of options. What are your recommendations for hotels/pensions in Florence and Tuscany? (We plan to spend more time outside Florence). 1. Get the newest 2012 edition of Rick Steves Florence & Tuscany. He updates the books every year, and even though the current one was actually published in 2011, it will have his most up-to-date hotel listings, opening hours, etc. 2. "Tuscany" is a big place. Which part did you want to see? this will determine the best hotel location(s). 3. What is your budget in euros for a room, and what are your requirements? It doesn't do you any good for others to recommend a fancy place if you can't afford it, or an inexpensive walk-up facing a wall if you need an elevator and want a nice view.
