My husband and I are traveling to Italy in Oct. and want a recommendation for a hotel in Florence, preferably one that is easy to walk to and from the city. Thanks!
I am currently staying at the Hotel Argentina. It is quite, clean and a 5-7 min walk from the train station, Good location and reasonable price.
I can recommend The Frame hotel. Beautiful property, amazing location, exceptional service.
Hotel Pendini, request room 206. Gorgeous view over the piazza.
Thanks, everyone! I will check these out!
We were just in Italy last month and stayed at the Hotel Rivoli in Florence. It was perfectly located, clean, great staff, and nice breakfasts. I highly recommend it.
Hotel Albani is on a quiet side street and is an easy walk to the Duomo area as well as the train station. It had a great breakfast. We enjoyed a room on an upper floor with a small balcony facing an inner courtyard with views of Florence.
We just stayed at Hotel Duomo. It is a 10 min walk from the train station and is right next to the Duomo. You have a balcony that stares right at the dome. It is less than 10 min to Uffizi and less than 10 min to the Accademia. Good breakfast as well.
In 2015 we stayed at the Rodo hotel fashion delight. It is centrally located right by the duomo. It was a 10 min walk from the train station although we did have a little difficulty finding it initially with all the building signage. We enjoyed staying here, friendly helpful staff, breakfast was good and they have a nice rooftop terrace. Also they have a lift/elevator so we didn’t have the hassle of hauling luggage up stairs.
Prior to that we stayed at hotel meridiana and san gallo palace hotel. While we enjoyed both, they were further from city center.
what did you think of the hotels Rick recommends in his book?
Check out Hotel California (yep, that's the name). Very nice but reasonably priced. Great location as everything is within walking distance.
We liked the Hotel Balestri Florence. https://www.hotel-balestri.it/eng
Directly across the street from the train station, and convenient to everything. We love it there.
We stayed at Hotel Berchielli and going back this September. You can request a room with a view to the Arno River. It’s just across the hotel.
Traditional hotel, clean and good breakfast. Very good location.
We liked HOTEL SILLA, recommended in Rick's book. And Rick Steves book readers get a 10% discount (just ask).
It's 10 minute walk to most sights and in one of the last "real" neighborhoods where Italians acutally live.
We just returned from Italy and spent 4 nights in Florence. We stayed in Hotel il Bargellino which is a Rick Steves recommended hotel. Our family of four ("kids are 20 and 22) loved it; we had a large room, with a private bathroom. It is operated by Carmel (Boston native) and her husband Italian husband Pino. We loved it. It was less than a 10 minute walk from the train station, and we walked everywhere in Florence from the hotel. The restaurant across the street, Osteria Vecchio Cancello is fabulous and is worth making a reservation. We would stay here again.
Hotel Principe is right on the River Arno, several bridges down from Ponte Vecchio. When I stayed, it was clean and quiet with a stunning rooftop view (especially at sunset). It’s very much in the old style of European hotels, so expect no frills and what Americans might picture as a “1960s Italy” bedroom experience — I loved it, but if you are used to a platinum status Marriott experience, this isn’t that. I had a balcony, which was a huge surprise, and it had a great view.
The staff was kind and helpful. It’s a “leave your physical key at the desk when you venture out for the day” sort of place. It has a storied history (it’s an historic building) but has a small elevator for luggage or if stairs are a problem. I happened to book a weekend in Florence where every old town hotel was either booked or exhorbitant, and seemingly every hostel, too. I found a room at Hotel Principe available for my dates at a reasonable price. I was skeptical that it might be a scam since every other place was so much more expensive, but it worked out. I think the price of the room includes breakfast, but in Italy, I tend to venture forth early and find breakfast at a bar (espresso, pastry, etc.).
The hotel was a short, safe walk from the train station (10 minutes, maybe?). I didn’t take a cab, but I’m sure it would be a short, cheap ride. And it was a beautiful walk along the Arno to the main sights.
Just so you all know, I look up every hotel being mentioned on Trip advisor and if I like it, it goes in my favorites and then I will use this research material for my next trip...so not only are you helping OP, your helping me too..so thanks!
Great idea, letizia!
I’ve been bookmarking the posts but I like your idea to mark the hotels as favorites and think I’ll start doing that as well!
