Hotels in downtown Milan

My wife and I are traveling to Italy this coming June and will be spending a few days in Milan; we have stayed there before. This time we'd like to be in central city and don't particularly want to stay in a large 'business-oriented' hotel. We like modest luxury but even an upscale B&B would be acceptable....any suggestions? thanks

What is "central city" to you? I stay by Stazione Centrale and consider that central, but some would not consider it so. If you are open to that area, well-connected by Metro, consider the Hotel Berna. Very personable place, clean, great breakfast, and a nice aperitivo spread in the bar in the evening.

I have stayed at the Hotel Berna and also the Hotel Garda (across the street from the Berna)
both are just a very short walk(maybe 2 blocks) from the main train station.
Ideal location, metro station on the corner, lots of places to eat.
I like to walk and went thru the central park to the Duomo - not too far.

Sorry I can't recommend anything near the Duomo or Castello, but the hotels mentioned near the station are very good with easy Metro access.

We've stayed at Hotel Madison very near Centrale and enjoyed it very much. It's sort of business-y, and the rooms are modern but it's not large, the location was great, price was right, and the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was included, and it was VERY nice to have an in-room coffee/tea maker; rare in mid-range Italian hotels!

I have reservations next month at the Grand Duca di York. It's a small boutique hotel very close to the Duomo. It looks lovely and the reviews from many sites are great.

We stayed at the Grand Duca di York three years ago. It was clean, comfortable, quiet, and offered a good breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel and is in a great location - very close to the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Palazzo Reale (saw a fantastic Arcimboldo exhibit there), and the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. We also walked from the hotel to Santa Maria delle Grazie to see 'The Last Supper'. Would definitely stay there again.

We have stayed at Hotel Berna and it was very nice with a fabulous breakfast buffet. It is very close to Milano Centrale and a very easy subway ride to the Duomo, etc.

Hi Charles,
I recommend Milano Bella B&B via Lazzaro Spallanzani 16 near Corso Buenos Aires, Metro Porta Venezia.
Not quite in historical center, very close. They have two rooms only.
I enjoyed my one night stay. Friendly host Martin. Read their Tripadvisor reviews.
Blessings,
Peter
